Desiree Rodriguez is a senior at the largest high school in Alaska. East Side High School has approximately 2,220 students, and more than 30 languages are spoken in the hallways. She is also an honor student with a GPA of 3.68.
Her teachers say Desiree is a really hard worker.
School counselor, Tracy Kennedy, says she practices her Spanish with Desiree, whose parents are from the Dominican Republic.
“She doesn’t always have access (because Desiree has been in a wheelchair since birth), but she will stand up for herself,” says Kennedy. “I think she’ll be a good counselor. She’s very observant.”
