Patricia Legarreta, and her boyfriend, Jamie Rohrs, who were at the Colorado movie theater with their young children, tell Today Show’s Ann Curry how they shielded their kids from gunfire – and reveal that Jamie proposed marriage in the hospital.
Legarreta ran from the theater, with shrapnel on her leg, grabbing her kids and running for the lobby. “Should I play dead? My kids are not going to die in here,” she told the Denver Post.

Batman massacre: Am I missing something?
Why are people focusing on the marriage proposal when Jamie Rohrs left his wounded wife and their two children (one of which is an infant) to fend for themselves?
In his own words:

I think this sends a poor message to young men (people) that fending for themselves is rectified by a ‘guilty marriage proposal.’ I’m sure plenty of people will say I’m quick to judge, but when someone leaves a complete stranger to do the right thing, I cannot help but feel disappointment in him.
A wounded, Jarell Brooks (19yrs), is the hero who did the right thing and saved the wounded mother and children

Jamie, will have a lot to make up for in his poor, actions, because that moment will be etched in all three of their lives. I’m sure he regrets it, but the kids will be old enough to learn for themselves what their father is known for and that will be punishment enough.
Why doesn’t she feel the need to speak out on-air about how she and her kids were abandoned by Jamie?
Why did she say yes to the proposal, after he left them to fend for themselves?
