Pepe “The Voice” Aguilar is best known for mixing romantic Mariachi ballads with contemporary pop to make a new genre of music.
But Pepe Aguilar added another honor to his long list of accomplishments.
Jose “Pepe” Aguilar joined a large group of talented and famous stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, making him the 2,474th star to get honored.
“Thank you very much to everybody who made this possible,” said Aguilar. “It’s a great honor to have you here.”
Hundreds of fans gathered around the star and cheered as he unveiled his new star plaque.
“I can’t think of a bigger star than Pepe Aguilar here today,” said Jose Huizar, a Los Angeles City Council member, in the opening ceremony. “You are a star in the music world but today you are a star on the Walk of Fame.”
The Latino artist’s star was placed next to the star belonging to his late father, Antonio Aguilar, the esteemed Mexican actor, writer, and singer. His father was honored in September 2000 for his 150 albums and his many movies.
“Hollywood Boulevard was hope for my dad, when he was homeless and living on streets and being without any papers,” Aguilar told AP. “And, then he won everything this industry has to offer.”
Aguilar made his debut when he was 3 years old at Madison Square Garden with his father.
The star was born during one of his father’s tours in Texas. Chairman and CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, Leron Gulber, said that is the reason why Aguilar has music in his blood.
Pepe Aguilar is scheduled to appear at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California on August 3rd and 4th.
