Updates on Latino Olympians road to the gold

Watching the Olympics can be a stressful sport in itself. With so many events happening simultaneously, keeping up can be difficult.

But we are here to help. Get up to date on all of your favorite Latino Olympians as they get one step closer to the gold.

Olympic superstar Ryan Lochte has won the first US gold medal in the London Olympics for the 400m IM event. Lochte decimated Brazilian silver medal winner, Pereira Thiago, by more than three seconds. Lochte’s luck seemed to run dry during his part of the 4x100m freestyle relay. The US men’s swimming team won silver after a surprising upset by the French team in the last 100m. Wondering if he forgot to eat some ‘Bistec Empanizado‘ before the meet.

Boxer Jose Ramirez is fighting his way to a gold medal for the US after a super close 21-20 win over French boxer, Rachid Azzedine. The US has not won a gold medal in lightweight boxing in nearly two decades. Will Ramirez wreck this streak and make history?

The mens’ gymnastics team is headed by Danell Leyva, who took first in the qualifying round, and John Orozco, who took second. Leyva is already showing promise for the gold by winning the Olympic trials and the qualifying round. Orozco placed fourth in the qualifying round.

Tony Azevedo propelled the US mens’ water polo team in the last minute, just barely beating Montenegro 8-7 last night. The team is scheduled to play Romania next, but still must face the looming champions on the Hungarian team. Will the US break Hungary’s 4 gold streak?
