Most mamas-to-be take it easy during their pregnancy, but Shakira has always been known for being a bit of a rebel.
The “Get it Started” crooner has recently slapped two ex-employees with a lawsuit over alleged extortion and defamation. The petite Colombiana has stayed under the radar recently amid rumors of a pregnancy but didn’t hesitate to take action against the two employees whom she had recently fired.
According to Colombian paper El Esplendor, Shakira claims that the pair had threatened to release steamy details about her private life if she didn’t write a check for over $500,000. Rather than pay up, Shakira immediately struck back with a lawsuit.
“There is clear evidence of intentions to defame and cause harm to my client by taking advantage of her public persona and spotless personal reputation in exchange for money,” Shakira’s lawyer Exequiel A. Camerini told the publication.
No reason was offered as to why the two employees were terminated.
It seems with a rumored baby on the way, Shakira is cleaning house and getting rid of negative influences. According to reports, Shakira and longtime beau Gerard Piqué are expecting their first child together — reportedly a boy due in January 2013 that they’ve already nicknamed Ulcito. Shakira and Piqué have been engaged since last year but have yet to tie the knot. The Barcelona-based soccer stud and the songtress reportedly met in 2010 on set while filming the music video for her South Africa World Cup theme Song “Waka Waka” (This Time for Africa”).
Shakira had previously dated Antonio de la Rua, the son of former Argentine President Fernando de la Rua. The two had dated for eleven years before the Baranquilla native broke things off to be with Piqué.
