Mexican police captured one of their most wanted drug traffickers, Ivan Velazquez Caballero, also known as “El Taliban.” Caballero was the Zetas’ main leader, but recently joined the rival Gulf cartel. Meanwhile, 10 suspected gang members, including one woman, and a soldier died in a shootout in Southwest Mexico. The gunfight began when soldiers on patrol were attacked by the heavily armed group. El Salvador’s military destroyed over 800 firearms from rival gang members as part of a truce agreement. In addition, the military will destroy 200,000 rounds of ammunition. And in New York, Bolivian President Evo Morales played a soccer match with top UN officials to support a campaign to end violence against women. Morales scored one goal and his team won 10-5.
