Mexican authorities captured two alleged regional chiefs for the Juarez and Knights Templar cartels. One is a former police agent. Both suspects have been charged with coordinating drug gang operations. Jose Moreira, the son of the former chairman of Mexico’s Institutional Revolutionary Party, was found shot to death. Moreira had been reported missing several hours earlier. In Brazil, a supreme court judge said former President Lula’s Chief of Staff, Jose Direceu, is responsible for organizing pay-offs by the Workers’ Party for pull in Congress. This is Brazil’s biggest corruption scandal. And Cuba made a bilateral deal with Chile that will lower or eliminate tariffs and barriers on major exports. Cuba hopes this agreement will boost the country’s economy.
