Twelve hours after the collapse of an under-construction parking garage in Miami, rescue teams pulled 53-year-old Samuel Perez from the rubble, according to a local NBC affiliate in South Florida . Perez was airlifted to a nearby hospital after rescue workers had to amputate both of his legs to free him. Perez died at around 4 am Thursday morning, Miami-Dade police said.
Police have also identified the other two workers killed in the collapse as Carlos Hurtado de Mendoza, 48, and Jose Calderon, 60.
Hundreds of Miami-Dade County rescue workers continued their search at daylight Thursday morning looking for Robert Budhoo, a construction worker who is believed to still be trapped in the rubble.
The accident occurred Wednesday morning at around 11:40 am on Miami Dade College’s West campus where construction on the five-story parking garage was brought to a stop.
Described as a “pancake collapse” by Miami-Dade firefighters, the damage also left nine other people injured.
