She’s played an unstable ex-wife (“Vicky Cristina Barcelona”), a singer (“Girl of Your Dreams”), a chef (“Woman on Top”) and a doctor (“Sahara”), but for her next film, it looks like actress Penelope Cruz may play a cold-blooded murderer.
According to The Wrap, Cruz is currently in talks to star in a film based on the Gucci family. The Italian clan – behind the luxury brand of the same name – made national headlines with the murder of company heir Maruzio Gucci, who was infamously gunned in a plot devised by his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani in 1995.
Cruz would play Reggiani, who after she allegedly discovered her husband’s extra-marital affair, hired a hit man to commit the murder. Reggiani was sentenced to 29 years in prison in 1999.
The film will be directed by Ridley Scott, The Wrap reports.
Cruz, 38, just wrapped up filming “The Counselor” in Alicante, Spain, while hubby Javier Bardem will next appear in “Skyfall,” the latest film in the James Bond franchise.
