Mom in labor during Hurricane Sandy got epidural by cellphone light

When the power went out at NYU’s Langone hospital on Monday night, Julia Alemany was having contractions. In Alemnay’s pitch-black hospital room, an anesthesiologist administered an epidural with only a flashlight and cell phones to guide her.

Alemany, originally from Barcelona, was transferred to another hospital where she gave birth to a healthy baby boy named Micah Alemany-Markus.
