The fate of Arizona’s Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has been decided in the face off against Democrat Paul Penzone, and Independent Mike Stauffer.
The controversial sheriff who calls himself the “America’s Toughest Sheriff,” but has been sued by The Department of Justice for alleged racial profiling of Latinos has just won his sixth term – defeating the two retired police officers.
The 80-year-old who is also known for forcing jail inmates to sleep in tents and wear pink underwear, has told the Associated Press prior to Tuesday night’s election, “It might be a little bigger challenge because I have people coming after me – the Justice Department,” he said, adding that he believed the federal probes were politically motivated.
At a party in downtown Phoenix on Tuesday night, he told azcentral.com, “Cautiously optimistic,” regarding the election the outcome. “We’re having a good time.”
