Texting while driving will get you a ticket in Edinburg, Texas.
A new ordinance passed Tuesday was declared effective immediately.
Police Chief Rolando Castaneda and city officials decided to enforce the law without a warning period for motorists.
“One of the many reasons: I would hate to be on my conscious that we allow a 30 or 60 day grace period on this new ordinance to come into effect and my son or daughter or your son or daughter gets injured or killed, I don’t think I could live with myself,” Caseneda said.
The new ordinance was placed on the ballot after a petition drive organized by local high school students.
