Latin Grammys: Jesse & Joy, Juan Luis Guerra win big

At the 13th annual Latin Grammy awards, audiences at home didn’t have just one or two Latino artists to root for – instead, the whole gamut of Hispanic talent ranging from ranchera, pop-rock and reggaeton were represented in a star-studded awards ceremony broadcast Thursday night from Las Vegas.

The Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences bestowed awards in categories like Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Christian Album (Portuguese Language), Best Classical Album, Best Tejano Album and Best Banda Album, and several of Latin music’s biggest stars claimed multiple wins.

Jesse & Joy – a brother-and-sister pop rock pair from Mexico – took home a whopping total of four trophies with wins for Best Recording and Best Song (“Corre!”).  Songstress Lila Downs won Best Folkloric album for her release “Pecados y Milagros,” while Dominican favorite Juan Luis Guerra – who was in six different categories – snagged Producer of the Year and shared Album of the Year with rocker Juanes.

Also winning big at the Mandalay Bay Events Center was Mexican group 3BallMTY, which took home “Best New Artist” with their distinctive cumbia-electronic dance sound.
