Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna have been friends and co-producers for many years and it looks like they’ve decided to combine forces yet again with a new venture that will “focus on the financing and worldwide sales of Latin American Movies,” reports Indiewire.
While Bernal and Luna already own a production company together alongside partner Pablo Cruz – Canana Films – they plan to create a brand new company with distribution heavyweight IM Global called Mundial.
According to Indiewire, Mundial will connect US and Latin American film industries by representing at least ten Latin films on an annual basis. And the new company already has several movies on their slate of upcoming releases: “Manto acuifero” by director Michael Rowe, Mariana Chenillo’s “Paradise” and one of Luna’s own directorial efforts,”Mr. Pig.”
The two friends- who are both of Mexican descent – are no strangers when it comes to producing off-the-cuff films: their Canana Films has been behind indie films like “Miss Bala” and the two have joined up to create the highly anticipated biopic “Chavez” starring Michael Peña as Cesar Chavez alongside actresses America Ferrera and Rosario Dawson.
