Popular novela “Rubí” gets English makeover as brand-new show

Fans of the novela “Rubí” should get their remotes ready, as the hit show will be revamped for a new English-language version developed by 20th Century Fox TV.

The new show will be an hour-long series that will feature the tale of a beautiful – but poor – woman “who will do anything to make her dream a reality and become rich,” reports Deadline.

“Rubí” – which ran from 2004 to 2005 on Univision and whose finale drew nearly 8 million viewers – will be executive produced by Michael Garcia, who is also part of the production team behind “Devious Maids.”

Bárbara Mori played the original role of Rubí Pérez and while there hasn’t been an announcement about who may be cast in the new adaptation, there’s always the possibility that a remake could mark a small comeback of sorts for the actress, who is of Uruguayan and Mexican descent.
