Director/producer Guillermo del Toro is more in demand than ever with the news that he’s joined a new project titled “Crimson Peak” that’s sure to spook global audiences.
The supernatural thriller is based on del Toro’s original script, reports Deadline, and will be produced by Legendary Pictures.
The new film will be “a very set-oriented, classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story,” del Toro told Deadline. “It will allow me to play with the conventions of the genre I know and love, and at the same time subvert the old rules.”
Legendary and del Toro have teamed up before and the Hollywood production company is backing del Toro’s monster flick “Pacific Rim,” set to hit theaters next summer.
And while the Mexican director plans to begin production on the creepy haunted house thriller “Crimson Peak” in 2014, audiences can get their fix with his newest film, “Mama,” which will be released in January 2013. And movies aren’t the only projects on the “Pan’s Labyrinth” director’s slate: he’ll be working on a new vampire fantasy series for cable channel FX titled “The Strain.”
