Wreckage of singer Jenni Rivera’s plane is found, no survivors

Mexican authorities have reported finding the remains of the plane carrying Mexican-American singer and reality show tv star Jenni Rivera, also known as “La Diva de la Banda,” according to Telemundo and NBC News. The remains were found in the Ejido La Colorada, in the municipality of Nuevo Leon. The singer had left Monterrey, Mexico around 3:30am today bound for Toluca, outside Mexico City, where she was also scheduled to perform a concert.  Seven people, including her publicist, lawyer, makeup artist and the flight crew were believed to be aboard the U.S.-registered Learjet 25.

In her Twitter account, @jennirivera, on December 7th, the actress and singer had a picture holding up a sign with words referring to her concert in Monterrey on December 8th. She had also posted pictures on her Facebook page. 

The news of Rivera’s missing plane immediately lit up Twitter and social media.  Immediately following the news of her plane’s disappearance, scores of fans and celebrities tweeted in Spanish and English about praying for Jenni and hoping everything was okay.  Singer Paulina Rubio (@paurubio) said in Spanish, “Waiting for my friend @jennirivera but she never made it-still too soon-there are no words and no consolation,” she tweeted.  Singer Gloria Estefan tweeted (@GloriEstefan) tweeted “OMG! Just heard about @jennirivera-praying for her and her family during this difficult and uncertain time!”, Estefan tweeted.

Once news of the deadly crash became more certain,  celebrities and adoring fans tweeted in shock and sorrow.  Singer Luis Fonsi (@luisfonsi) tweeted in Spanish, “The Diva of the Band will sing eternally from heaven.  Rest in peace,” he tweeted.

Rivera had recently announced she had signed on with ABC to do a comedy, “Jenni,” about a middle-class single mother and business owner.  Rivera – a successful singer-songwriter who has sold over 20 million albums worldwide — is also known for her reality show, “I Love Jenni,” on mun2.  People En Español had listed Rivera as one of its 25 Most Powerful Women in October.

The 43-year-old, who was born and raised in Long Beach, California, is known for her interpretations of Mexican regional music known as norteña and banda. She leaves behind 5 children, including a daughter, Chiquis, who had her own reality show at mun2 about working for her mother Jenni, as well as two grandchildren.
