Ryan Lochte to star in new reality show

You’ve seen him scoop up gold medals at the Summer Olympics, watched him take the stage at the 2012 ALMA Awards and maybe even laughed when he spoofed his reputation as a ladies man during a recent episode of “30 Rock.” But now, fans will get a chance to see the real Ryan Lochte in a brand-new weekly reality show series on E! that will premiere in April 2013.

“What Would Ryan Lochte Do?” will follow the swimmer at home in Gainesville, Florida as he trains for the 2016 Rio Olympics, parties and designs “his own line of over-the-top sneakers,” reads an E! press release about the show.

The six-episode reality series was announced Monday during the Television Critics Association press tour.

“Ryan Lochte captured everyone’s attention at the Summer Olympics with his athletic prowess and his utterly unique and unaffected approach to life,” said E! Entertainment President Suzanne Kolb of the half-Cuban star. “He is an incredibly endearing personality who is sexy, entertaining and fun. Watching this show, I believe people will fall into three categories: they want to be him, sleep with him or mother him.”

News about the reality show follows Lochte’s guest spots on shows including teen soap “90210.” And while Lochte had once been rumored to be in talks to star in ABC’s “The Bachelor,” the 28-year-old will be able to deliver his signature phrase – “Jeah!” – on his very own platform.

And helping him along the way? His Cuban mother Ileana and older sisters Kristen Lochte-Keeler and Megan Lochte Torrini. His younger brother Devon will also make his prime-time debut on the show, making “What Would Ryan Lochte Do?” a family affair.
