Shakira may be thrilled about the upcoming birth of her first baby, but she’s sharing the love with the news that she is asking fans to donate to UNICEF in honor of her baby boy.
Titled “Shakira & Gerard Piqué,’s World Baby Shower to Help UNICEF Save Children’s Lives,” the philanthropic cause encourages Shakira fans around the world to donate funds to needy children worldwide in lieu of sending the star a baby gift. Donors can choose from a number of “Inspired Gifts,” which include a baby scale ($37), polio vaccine ($10) or even a $5 malaria net, all which will be donated to children in need.
To announce the charity, Shakira tweeted an oh-so-cute picture of she and Spanish soccer beau Piqué with the caption “We’d like to celebrate the imminent birth of our first child with all of you.”

It’s just the latest headline for the baby, who has had his fair share of social media moments. Piqué shared a picture of his son’s sonogram via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and blog in December, while mom-to-be Shakira hasn’t been shy about tweeting pictures of her adorable baby bump.
But that’s not to say that the singer – who will appear on “The Voice” as a judge in March – hasn’t used her significant social media presence for good before. Just last week, the 35-year-old used Twitter as a way to publicize her Buy A Brick program, which allows people to help build schools for underprivileged children in Colombia one brick at a time.
