Taking center stage and opening the Inauguration ceremonies, the P.S. 22 Chorus of Staten Island, entertained thousands of attendees who made their way to the National Mall Monday morning.
It was a tough road for the choir, which is more than 60 percent Latino, to make it to the event since they had to raise the money for the trip. With the help of private donors and the Department of Education’s Fund for Public Schools, the choir raised over $20,000 dollars for the event.
“It would mean a lot because singing for the president is a big thing,” said Delaney Rivera, 11, when he first heard the news. “But I’m just happy for us to sing and show everyone a good time.”
