Demi Lovato will return to “The X Factor” as judge

Demi Lovato will return to “The X Factor” as a judge when the show returns to airwaves this fall, Fox announced Thursday, marking the 20-year-old’s second season on the singing competition.

“I couldn’t be happier that Demi wants to come back this year,” show creator Simon Cowell said of the “Give Your Heart A Break” star.

“She’s a superstar in her own right and was a fantastic mentor last year. Even though she can be really, really annoying – I truly enjoyed working with her and so did the artists.”

It’s a huge accomplishment for the Mexican American singer who is currently riding a wave of success for her newest single “Heart Attack,” which debuted at no. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this month.

The former Disney Channel star – who entered rehab in 2011 for an eating and self-harm disorders – made no secret of the fact that she wanted to return to “The X Factor.”

“I would love,” Lovato recently told Parade. “If they asked me to come back, I’d probably say yes.”

But Lovato, who lived in a sober living facility during her time taping the Fox show, won’t be joined on the upcoming season by former judges L.A. Reid and Britney Spears.

According to Reuters, celebrities rumored to join the show as new judges include Katy Perry, John Mayer, Ne-Yo and Pink.
