Over the course of four decades, Dominican designer Oscar de la Renta has earned recognition the world over for his sophisticated, ladylike designs. The designer, who early in his career became famous for dressing Jacqueline Kennedy, has since been known for dressing generations of well-dressed women including television actresses like “Glee” star Lea Michele and “Once Upon A Time” diva Ginnifer Goodwin, box office divas like Penelope Cruz and Jessica Biel, musician Taylor Swift and even fashion-savvy politicos like Hillary Clinton, who has worn many of de la Renta’s women’s wear designs on some of the most memorable moments of her life, including daughter Chelsea’s wedding, the 1997 inaugural ball and on the cover of Vogue in 1998.

And while the 81-year-old old has received numerous awards during his lifetime, the fashion designer will receive the highly-coveted Founders Award at this year’s 2013 CFDA Awards held on June 3 at Lincoln Center in New York. Organized by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), the awards will honor the very best in design across men and womenswear, as well as accessories. None other than former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will present de la Renta with his prize, which is given in honor of Eleanor Lambert, who founded the CFDA in 1962. With A-listers expected to attend – Vera Wang, Jessica Chastain, Kerry Washington and Ralph Lauren, just to name a few – here’s a look back at some of the red-carpet-ready looks that have helped cement de la Renta’s fame as a Latino designer who has impacted the world of fashion.
