Woman killed on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame over $1

A California woman was fatally stabbed by three homeless men on the Hollywood Walk of Fame — and it was all over one dollar.

Christine Calderon was taking pictures with a friend Tuesday night in the tourist-packed area when she saw an amusing sign held by three panhandlers. Calderon and her friend used their cellphones to take  pictures of the men’s signs, who then immediately asked she pay one dollar for the pictures.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, “a dispute ensued” and Calderon was stabbed in the torso while her coworker was pinned to the wall. Police officers found Calderon bleeding from multiple stab wounds on the busy Hollywood Boulevard. The 23-year-old woman was taken to the hospital but died of her stab wounds during surgery shortly after.

Monta Cobbin, an employee of the American Eagle Outfitters store right near where Calderon was stabbed, told NBC Los Angeles that several people had tried to help the wounded Calderon.

“The girl was just laying on the ground with blood everywhere,”she said. “Everyone was trying to help her stop the blood.”

The three men, who are all believed to be homeless, were found near the scene and arrested.

Family members told the Los Angeles Times that Calderon frequently hung out in the Hollywood area with friends. Yolande Tassin, Calderon’s mother, said that her daughter had recently finished getting her GED and registered to take classes at El Camino Community College. She was in the process of turning her life around from drinking and doing drugs.

“Her plan was to become an engineer,” Tassin said. “She didn’t want to waste years. She wanted to get in there and do it right.”
