Christina Aguilera wants you to know that she’s really feeling the love with the release of a new video for a song that’s all about spreading love and joy across race, sex and gender.
Aguilera released the new video for her single “Let There Be Love” on her website just one day after penning an epic love letter to fans. And the video expresses more of Aguilera’s appreciation for the fans that helped her become a star, as the three minute video opens with a heartfelt message from Aguilera herself.
“Thank you guys so much for filling my life and my heart, with so much love,” says Aguilera, looking slim in a white one piece bathing suit with the word “love” printed on it. “You’ve continued over the years, to stand by me …this one is for you.”
And Aguilera made sure to let fans know that she loves everyone. The video features footage of Aguilera’s backup dancers and friends — among them, celebrity A-Lister Nicole Ritchie — flashing peace signs and banners with slogans like “Just Be,” “Respect,” “Racism Sucks” and “Equality.” In one scene, a mother-son duo is seen hugging as the mother holds a sign that says “Amo a Mi Hijo Gay.”
It’s not the first time Aguilera has referred to social messages before in her music. Her 2002 hit “Beautiful” earned attention for its message about acceptance for the LGBT community; a fan base whom Aguilera has thanked in the past for its support of her career.
“I cannot be more thankful for the support over the years from the community,” the “Voice” coach told The Advocate last year. “Even when I felt I couldn’t stand, they held me up and supported me. I think we can each related to each other and I am forever indebted.”
“Let There Be Love” also features cameos by two very special men in Aguilera’s life: son Max — who shows off some killer dance moves while wearing an oh-so-cute fedora — and longtime boyfriend Matthew Rutler, whom Aguilera is seen playfully interacting with in the home video-style footage.
