Labor Day weekend signals that the end of summer is around the corner, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to put away the beach towels and sunscreen just yet. And the same holds true for drinks, perfect for sipping during summer’s sultry weather: there’s no reason to stop sipping on fruity chilled drinks as we head into the first days of September. So whether you’re going to be hosting an intimate soiree or inviting a group over for a backyard cookout, it’s time to break out the blender and swizzle sticks to prepare one (or all!) of our summery sweet drinks.
Get creative with your last batch of sangria this summer! This fresh version – the dream child of mixologist Gonzalo Marin – livens up crisp Albariño wine with the addition of granny smith apples and lemon grass for a delicately sweet concoction that will leave your guests begging for more. The Tres Caminos
This sunny cocktail is the brainchild of Dominican mixologist Juan Coronado, whose engineering background enables him to approach cocktails in a near-scientific fashion, carefully balancing sweet, savory, crisp and bold. In this cocktail – named the Tres Caminos — Mexican tequila is given a bright citrus twist thanks to mandarin-flavored liqueur and a dash of crisp Averna. Click here for the recipe.
Avocado & Mezcal Cocktail
In this cocktail, the creaminess of ripe avocado is accented with the crisp, smoothness of white mezcal and the brightness of lime and Cointreau. Make sure to use avocados that are slightly soft to the touch (a “sure sign they are ripe,” says expert mixologist Junior Merino) and whirl in a blender with plenty of ice for a smooth, cool cocktail perfect for a warm weather weekend. The Hemingway Daiquiri
This weekend, toast to the creativity of the late author Ernest Hemingway, who used to down his favorite daiquiri one after another in quick success during his writing days in 1930s Cuba. Prepared with extra rum, grapefruit juice and blended with maraschino syrup instead of sugar, this is a classic cocktail that’s sure to please even the most modern of palates.
