It was a long nine months in Afghanistan for US Army soldier Luis Solis. After being away from his family during the holidays, Solis was finally able to return home. He said one of the things that helped him through the deployment was all the care packages he received.
These kids in Laredo, Texas are part of the National Junior Honor Society. As seventh graders they made care packages and sent them to a troop stationed in Afghanistan.
Soldier Solis was one of them, and he came to the school to thank the kids for their thoughts and gifts while away.
The students replied in kind. “Words can’t describe the gratitude to them. This is a small token of our gratitude to them,” replied one of the students.
Solis presented a flag and certificate to the students for their generous care packages full of food and necessities.
That’s something the students said was their honor to do for those protecting our county. One student added, “It feels great because they give so much, their courage for the freedom we have, and this is just a small thing we can do to say thanks.”
