New Jenni Rivera concert album gets December release date

Singer Jenni Rivera

A new album featuring Jenni Rivera’s last live performance will be released on December 3, which coincides with the anniversary of her death last year in a plane crash in Mexico.

The CD – and an accompanying DVD – is a recording of Rivera’s sold-out concert last December at the Arena Monterrey, a final performance by Rivera which spanned more than three hours.

Following the concert, Rivera – and members of her entourage, including her publicist, lawyer, and makeup artist – boarded a plane en route to the city of Toluca in central Mexico. Shortly after taking off at 3:15 a.m. local time, the Learjet plane nose-dived for more than 28,000 feet and crashed near Iturbide, Mexico.

“For our family, it’s a pleasure sharing this treasure with fans of our mother, daughter and sister,” said sister Rosie Rivera in a statement. “This effort has brought us tears and made us proud and now it gives us much happiness to continue with the company that worked with Jenni in other large projects. In honor and tradition to what Jenni Rivera is, we remain loyal to those whom have been loyal to her.”

The album, which will be produced by Rivera’s brother Juan, is to be released on the Universal Music Latin Entertainment/ Fonovisa label. Rosie – who was named the executor of sister Jenni’s estate in a letter the late singer wrote before her death – signed a contract with the music label to provides rights to the concert footage, which will be distributed through CD and DVD throughout the U.S., Latin America and Mexico.

“Thanks to this new agreement, we have made a commitment to Rosie Rivera and the rest of Jenni’s family that her music will remain alive for the next years, transmitting emotions to its loyal audience,” shared UMLE President, Víctor González in a statement. “Thank you to Rosie and Juan, but above all thanks to her children, for their trust in us, and for this agreement that unites us for many years.”

Following her death, Rivera – known as ”La Diva de La Banda” to her fans –  has proven more popular than ever. Rivera’s autobiography “Unbreakable” became a national best-seller after its July release and at the 2013 Billboard Mexican Music Awards on Oct. 9, the singer posthumously received seven awards.

And while Rivera’s last moments on stage will be captured in the upcoming DVD release, fans have yet another project to look forward to. A biopic based on the 43-year-old’s life is currently in production, reports E! News, and Rivera’s eldest daughter Chiquis will portray the Mexican American star.
