For Sandy Hook shooting families, new report brings no answers

According to a newly-released, 48-page report on last December’s shooting rampage which ended the lives of 20 children and 6 adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, the shooter Adam Lanza had no clear motive.

“The obvious question that remains is: `Why did the shooter murder twenty-seven people, including twenty children?’ Unfortunately, that question may never be answered conclusively,” the report said, which was published on the state’s Division of Criminal Justice website. and released Monday.

The report did detail, however, Lanza’s obsession with mass murders, particularly the Colombine school massacre in Colorado.

Victoria Soto was a 27-year-old first-grade teacher who died after shielding her students from the gunman by hiding them in a closet.

The late teacher’s mother, Donna Soto, posted a statement shortly before the public release of the report, saying it was yet “another blow” to her family that did not answer their questions.

“How can we live without Vicki? How do we celebrate Christmas without Vicki? How do we go on every day missing a piece of our family?” said Donna Soto.

“We don’t know if we will ever be whole again,” Vicki Soto’s mother added. “We don’t know if we will go a day without pain, we don’t know if anything will ever make sense again. We do know that we will stick together, and we will be strong, and we will live, laugh and love as Vicki would want us to.”
