Rupert Murdoch, Barack Obama, Michael Bloomberg and Arnold Schwarzenegger all agree.

Immigration reform has to get done.

That’s why Murdoch and Bloomberg joined together to create The March for Innovation, or iMarch, an online forum that includes Twitter town halls and pressure from citizens through social media to get politicians to hear their voices in support of immigration reform. The president’s campaign apparatus, reconfigured as Organizing for Action, is supporting iMarch as well as the former California governor.

Supporters took to Twitter Wednesday to announce the launch of iMarch.

RT if you agree: This is not just a debate about policy—it’s about people. #iMarch #ImmigrationNation, twitter.com/whitehouse/sta…

Immigration reform has seen a largely bipartisan push as the so-called Gang of 8 senators crafted legislation that was approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday and now heads to a vote from the full Senate.

Asked why immigration reform is seeing a push that has even surpassed the McCain-Kennedy effort from 2007, longtime reform supporter Rep. Luis Gutierrez says the reason is clear.

RELATED: Analysis: Can the House torpedo immigration reform?

“November 6th — there was an election — and clearly there was a mandate of the people and the Congress, unlike on guns and when it comes to the budget and unlike so many other issues, is being responsive,” Gutierrez said on HuffPost Live, Wednesday.

AOL co-founder Steve Case, who has testified in front of Congress as well as Steve Jobs’ widow also added to the chorus of politicians pushing for reform on Twitter.

Jose Antonio Vargas, a journalist who came out as undocumented in a New York Times article, and has emerged as a passionate advocate for immigration reform, announced that he will use Reddit’s popular “Ask me anything” feature to bring attention to iMarch.

I’m doing @reddit #AMA at 4p ET for #Marchforinnov.
Creators of the iMarch campaign are banking on Americans to use social media to pressure politicians to support reform and as of Wednesday afternoon, nearly 12,000 “actions” had been taken on Facebook and Twitter to push for immigration reform.

Geraldo Rivera may be “truly contemplating” a run for U.S. Senate in New Jersey but a new poll says voters are already done contemplating supporting him.

A Monmouth University/Asbury Park Press poll found that only 9 percent of voters say they would be very likely to vote for Rivera and just 17 percent say they would be somewhat likely to should he choose to run.

Conversely, a majority 65 percent of voters say they would not be likely to support Rivera, including 51 percent who say they would not vote for him at all.

The Fox News personality made waves after announcing on his radio show that he was seriously considering a Senate run.

RELATED: Geraldo Rivera says he may run for U.S. Senate in New Jersey

“Fasten your seat belt,” he told his audience. “I am and have been in touch with some people in the Republican Party in New Jersey. I am truly contemplating running for Senate against Frank Lautenberg or Cory Booker in New Jersey.”

“I figure, at my age, if I’m going to do it, I’ve got to do it,” Rivera added.

In politics time moves quickly and on Thursday longtime incumbent Senator Lautenberg, 89, announced that he intends to retire.

“I will be traveling to my hometown of Paterson tomorrow to announce that I will not seek re-election in 2014,” Lautenberg said in a statement. “This is not the end of anything, but rather the beginning of a two-year mission to pass new gun safety laws, protect children from toxic chemicals, and create more opportunities for working families in New Jersey.”

But if the poll is any indication, Lautenberg’s departure will only help Newark Mayor Booker, and not Rivera, who lacks popularity even among Republican voters in New Jersey.

RELATED: Firestorm as Geraldo Rivera says Trayvon Martin’s hoodie responsible for his death

Even among GOP voters, just 44 percent say they would be at least somewhat likely to vote for Rivera while 48 percent would be unlikely.

About half of New Jersey voters have formed an opinion of Rivera, and it is evenly divided – 26 percent have a favorable view of him and 27 percent have an unfavorable view. The remaining 47 percent have no opinion.

Booker or anyone else who takes on the opinionated Rivera would have plenty of previous soundbites to use against him. After the shooting death of Trayvon Martin he said the hoodie the teen was wearing caused him to be shot by George Zimmerman. In August of last year he took to Fox and Friends to wonder aloud whether a lesbian cabal was running the Department of Homeland Security.

In his radio show announcement he said he would add nationalizing the controversial “Stop and Frisk” policy used by New York City police to his platform, should he run.

“The way you beat the whole racial profiling problem, you make it specific precinct statistics,” he said. “You can even make it block by block statistics if you want. You can have some objective criteria to beat the racial profiling constitutional problem and I’m telling you Chicago and Philly and the other cities can do what New York did dramatically cutting homicides.”

Geraldo Rivera, 69, the bombastic Fox News commentator who has made his share of controversial statements throughout his career announced on his radio show Thursday that he may very well run for Senate in New Jersey as a Republican to challenge long-time incumbent Senator Frank Lautenberg or Newark Mayor Cory Booker who has indicated he will run for the office.

RELATED: Firestorm as Geraldo Rivera says Trayvon Martin’s hoodie responsible for his death

Rivera also announced that he would seek to add nationalizing New York City’s controversial “stop and frisk” police practice to his platform should he run.

Rivera was talking to his audience and Fox News contributor Judge Andrew Napolitano, who praised Rivera, and said he would do everything in his power to help him win the seat because Geraldo is “a rare understander of the nature of human freedom and the role of government in our lives,” he said, adding, “I welcome this as a great gift at this stage in my life.”

Rivera’s eventual opponent would have plenty of sound bites to use against Rivera, who has come under fire for controversial comments. After the shooting death of Trayvon Martin he said the hoodie the teen was wearing caused him to be shot by George Zimmerman.

“I am urging the parents of black and Latino youngsters, particularly, to not let their children go out wearing hoodies,” Rivera said. “I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin’s death as George Zimmerman was.”

His hoodie killed Trayvon Martin as surely as George Zimmerman.—
Geraldo Rivera (@GeraldoRivera) March 23, 2012

Whatever New Jersey voters think of the possibility of “Senator Geraldo Rivera,” they will find out soon if it will be a possibility. Rivera says he has no interest in drawing it out and will make his decision soon.

Prompted by a challenge on Twitter about the responsibility of government to provide food to its people, Cory Booker decided to live this week on the monetary equivalent of food stamps — just $30 this week.

He has already tweeted about his hunger throughout the challenge, remarking that he wishes he had bought different items for the week. He is also a vegetarian so his options were more limited than they might have otherwise been.

Friday, as he chronicled his progress on Twitter and Instagram, he showed what he was having for lunch — Goya chick peas.

#SNAPChallenge Meal 2 today: Chick peas with some seasoning and olive oil instagr.am/p/S8LsH9PUWQ/

— Cory Booker (@CoryBooker) December 7, 2012

NBC Latino food editor Betty Cortina has some advice on how Booker could have elevated his Goya chick peas into a delicious and inexpensive hearty meal.

“All you really need to make those chick peas taste good is a little onion and garlic, which is pretty cheap,” she says. “You can dice half an onion along with the can of beans and some cloves of garlic and maybe put a chipotle chili pepper in there and give it some smoke.”

Cortina stressed that even if food is cheap, you still want it to taste and look good because we eat with our eyes first. She said Booker may have been best served by making a Latino staple: sofrito. “You take the onions and the garlic and the pepper and some tomato sauce and you can use a quarter of a cup to flavor your can,” she says. “This way, whatever remains, you can refrigerate it for a week or freeze it for three months. The idea is not what can you eat now but how can you stretch things when you’re on a budget.”

In the end, Booker had lots of options. Cortina also said he could have made a simple tasty soup with chicken stock or a cup of water and chicken bullion and maybe some spinach or kale. But what he really could have used in his $30 budget was Sazon Goya — which is a classic Latino seasoning used for any number of different meals.
