WATCH: Gun hearing leads to heated exchange between Sen. Ted Cruz and Sen. Dianne Feinstein

Freshman Senator, Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Senator Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., had an explosive exchange during a Senate Judiciary Committee meeting on Thursday morning.

While discussing a controversial gun ban measure, Cruz took on Feinstein, asking, “Would she consider it constitutional for Congress to specify that the first amendment shall apply only to the following books—and shall not apply for books outside protection of the bill of rights? Likewise does she think that the amendment for search and seizures shall apply only to following specified individuals and not to the individuals that Congress has deemed outside the bill of rights?”

His list of questions was the trigger that set senior Senator Feinstein to shot back.

“I’m not a sixth grader,” responded Feinstein to what she said was a ‘lecture’ on the constitution from Cruz. She adds, “I appreciate it. Just know I’ve been here for a long time. I’ve passed on a number of bills. I’ve studied the Constitution myself. I am reasonably well-educated, and I thank you for the lecture.”

The bill, authored by Feinstein, would ban 157 military-style weapons and large-capacity ammunition clips containing more than 10 bullets. The partisan measure passed the committee with a 10 to 8 vote and now moves to the Senate for a vote.
