Schumer on immigration: “We’re going to get this done”

After the Senate passed comprehensive immigration reform with a 68-32 vote, members of the Gang of Eight gave a brief press conference reacting to the passage. Senator Chuck Schumer touted the bipartisan support from “some of the most liberal people” to “some of the most conservative.” He added that this passage will “send a message across the country” and a message “to the other end of the capital as well.” Senator John McCain spoke to the House about coming together on this issue and bringing “11 million people out of the shadows.” And Senator Bob Menendez spoke of his mother immigrating to the United States before launching into Spanish to speak of immigration’s impact on improving the economy and bringing families together. All members of the Gang of Eight are poised for discussion with their House counterparts.
