Sofia Vergara tops Forbes’ list of highest paid actresses on TV for second year running

Sofia Vergara’s comedic timing has helped make her a crossover star but the Colombian bombshell is laughing all the way to the bank with the news that she has topped Forbes’ annual list of the highest-paid television actresses for the second year in a row.

The 41-year-old actress earned more than $30 million over the course of the last year, notes Forbes, making her the top earning actress on prime time television. And it’s not just her work on “Modern Family” that’s bringing in the big bucks: Vergara has a huge array of endorsement and licensing deals that have made her “the reigning queen” among her peers on TV.

There’s her advertising campaign with Pepsi, her line of clothing and accessories for Kmart, a licensing deal with Rooms to Go and of course, those dazzling Cover Girl ads. And those are just a few of her English-language endorsement deals, because Vergara also stars in a slew of Spanish-language commercials for products ranging from Comcast to laundry detergent.

And here’s one of the real reasons why Vergara is taking home a bigger chunk of change than the other top 20 paid TV and reality stars of 2013. More so than “The Big Bang Theory” actress Kaley Cuoco (#2), Mariska Hargitay (tying with Cuoco for the No. 2 slot), Tina Fey (No. 4) or the Kardashian clan, Vergara’s strength lies in her behind-the-scenes business savvy. Her talent management and entertainment marketing firm Latin WE represents a slew of profitable projects; with roles in “Machete Kills” and “Fading Gigolo” out this year, Vergara is, at the very core, a money-making brand.

“I would be lying to you if I didn’t say the success of it,” Vergara recently told Harper’s Bazaar when asked about her favorite aspect of starring on “Modern Family.” “For me, it has allowed me to do the things I always wanted—my endorsements.”

And Vergara – who graced Harper’s Bazaar as its August 2013 cover girl – was quick to share the secret to her success.

“You know, I think what has made me successful is that I have no need to prove anything to anyone,” Vergara said.
